The Beatles
The Beatles was an English rock band active during the 1960s, and acknowledged as the most commercially successful and one of the most critically acclaimed in the history of popular music.
Formed in Liverpool, was constituted from 1962 by John Lennon (rhythm guitar, vocals), Paul McCartney (bass, vocals), George Harrison (guitar, vocals) and Ringo Starr (drums, vocals).
The band later worked with other styles of music such as pop ballad to psychedelic rock. They built his reputation in clubs in Liverpool and Hamburg in a period of three years beginning in 1960. Sutcliffe left the band in 1961, and Starr replaced Best next year. They achieved commercial success in the United Kingdom at the end of 1962, with his first album, "Love Me Do".
From there, were gaining international popularity over the following years, in which he made an extensive number of tours until 1966, year in which decided to focus solely on recording in the Studio until its dissolution in 1970. Then, all its members have embarked on successful independent careers.
Lennon was assassinated outside his home in New York in 1980, and Harrison died of cancer in 2001. McCartney and Starr still remain active.They are retained as the group with more number one in the UK charts, placing more albums in this position than any other musical group. According to the RIAA certifications, they have sold more records in the United States than any other artist. The Beatles were placed at the top of the list of the top 100. They were awarded seven Grammy Awards, and received a total of fifteen Ivor Novello Awards. The innovative of The Beatles music and its cultural impact helped define the 1960s.
